Check out Kristen Wiig's '80s perm in first 'Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar' trailer

Bachelor In Paradise contestants have nothing on Barb and Star. When it comes to making the scene somewhere tropical, Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo do it best, as evidenced by the first trailer for Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar, out this morning. Forget tiny bikinis, the new comedy sees Wiig and Mumolo vacation (remember vacations?) 1980s style — complete with cruise-wear, Tiki bars, matching souvenir charm bracelets, and your grandmother’s four-decade-old hairdo. Has there been an International Criminal Court trial against the person who invented the permanent wave yet?

Wiig and Mumolo were the brains behind the 2011 mega hit comedy, Bridesmaids, and have re-teamed to both write and take on the lead roles in Barb and Star. The film sees the two titular besties decide to take a trip together — which means stepping out of their small town lives in the American Midwest for the first time ever. Naturally, they choose Florida as their vacation destination and naturally, things go awry very quickly. 

By the looks of the debut clip, these Florida shores are home to a much wilder scene than most Canadian Snowbirds heading to the beloved hot-spot for RV plots and condominium vacation homes might imagine. Barb and Star’s Florida has large-scale dance numbers, sultry sunscreen moments, and crabs. Also: a villain on a mission to wipe out the population of an entire town. 

The new comedy was originally scheduled for a theatrical release this July, but (perhaps knowing we could all use a laugh) the studio has moved up the premiere date to February and moved the release to online. Bless you, faceless studio execs.

Alongside Wiig and Mumolo, Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar features Jamie Dornan, Damon Wayans Jr., Fortune Feimster, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rose Abdoo, Vanessa Bayer, Phyllis Smith, and Kwame Patterson. The movie will be available to rent and stream as of February 12.
