Queen Victoria is completely missing half the point of ‘The Bachelor’

We get it, #DramaIsLife, but please stop.

Ah, we have our first villain of the new season of The Bachelor, and just like in season’s past, the bachelor himself is completely clueless. But the women who have to bunk and hang with her all day are quickly clueing into the fact that “Queen” Victoria is toxic and apparently simply there to mess up everyone’s experience. She’s jealous! She’s self-absorbed! She creates drama! She’s throwing other women under the bus! She’s...  completely missing half the point of being on the show in the first place.

On Monday night’s episode, we saw some incredible moments with Bachelor Matt James and some of the women invited on one-on-one dates and group dates. Both Bri and Sarah were treated to beautiful one-on-ones – ATVing in the woods, propeller airplane rides – where they opened up their hearts and minds to their new beau, each resulting in lots of romantic smooching and both ladies getting a rose. This is when Queen Victoria (who can be best described as “cranky” in that moment) started getting on everyone’s nerves. In the premiere episode, she was clearly self-involved and interrupted other women’s time with Matt, but we hadn’t yet seen just how nasty she could be. Now we know.

As Bri and Matt enjoyed a kiss surrounded by a massive fireworks display, Victoria complained that she wasn’t jealous, but that she wanted that for herself. Er, okay.

She started a fight with the girls that night, specifically her bunk mate Marylynn, over her insistence that she’s “not here to make friends!” Oh, how we’ve heard that one before. That is the calling card of the toxic contestant on any reality TV show! She insisted she has a connection with Matt and that she’s only interested in him. Her butting heads with Marylynn (who was just trying to get to know her better) resulted in Victoria hastily sleeping on the couch by choice.

This was our first glimpse at Victoria not realizing what a great opportunity being on The Bachelor is, apart from finding true love. Sure, we get it, you’re here for Matt. But everyone else is too, and odds are 32 to 1 that you won’t end up with him. Any romantic hopeful that goes on this show would be wise to use this time to build connections, and friendships. Those allies will come in handy on Bachelor in Paradise and IRL. Look what it did for Tayshia! Look at Demi! Also, being the most hated villain of the season is never a good look.

Did it turn out well for Luke on Hannah B’s season? Or Yosef on Claire’s season? Or even Bennett on Tayshia’s season? Bachelor Nation obviously couldn’t help but notice the comparisons.

Kaitlyn Bristowe (who hosts the Off The Vine podcast) made the point on Twitter that she'd love to have this season's royal villain on her pod to break down if Victoria was playing a character or trying to mask an insecurity (V did allude to having insecurities in a conversation with Matt). Because, in the words of Kaitlyn, "there has to be a reason for this."

On the group date, as women lined up for a romantic wedding photoshoot with Matt, Victoria cut in line and interrupted other women’s time. Then when it came to the wedding dress paint fight, she denigrated the other women by calling them “court gestures” (we, uh, think she means “jesters”) and saying, “let them eat cake.”

You know, the infamous misquote of Marie Antoinette attributed to her shortly before she was guillotined, but okay.

Probably her most destructive interaction with the other women came during the cocktail party where she grew jealous and enraged by the fact that Marylynn got an orchid from Matt during their chat. So Victoria went in and sabotaged Marylynn’s time and possible love connection by throwing her under the bus and telling Matt that she was “bullied.” None of that was true, and the other women didn’t believe a word of it, but Matt took it very seriously (as Bachelors have been known to do).

Marylynn tried to speak with Victoria, who of course wouldn’t speak or hear her out. All of her declarations of “I’m here for human connection and good energy” were clearly just lip service. Marylynn was left in tears right before the rose ceremony, and unfortunately, because Sarah suffered a fainting episode during the ceremony, we don’t know Marylynn’s fate! But from next week’s preview, it would seem that Victoria is still there. Ahhhh, Bachelor Nation is not happy about that!

Season “villains” and baddies don’t typically last long, and before we know it, suddenly we—er, we mean Matt—will forced to choose between three sweet, down-to-earth women. So enjoy chaotic Queen Victoria for as long as she’s on the show.
